Abstract: Marine pollution is known and well-studied. In the case of economic exploitation of marine waters, i.e. aquaculture and recreational activities, continuous monitoring of their quality is necessary. Commercial sensors can be used for speditive water monitoring but are usually stand-alone systems and with limited number of monitored quantities. In this article, after a brief review of commercial sensors in real time and of the quantities of chemical/biological interest, experimental data on the use in an aqua-cultivation plant are presented. The final objective is to produce through techniques of data fusion coming from heterogeneous sources a synthetic representation of the information that can be useful also in early warning. Both the data format and the data architecture are covered
